Now here's a Practical Demonstration of just how impressed we are with this Tent,...........
We've just bought another one !
This new Tent will be used with our first 3 PERSON 2 SECOND FRESH&BLACK CAMPING TENT to be used on Trips to Spain. We will be staying near Las Negras. April /May and Sept/October in the Cabo de Gata. We're absolutely confident that these Tent's will keep us Dry. RAIN !!! Yes it Does rain in Spring Time in Andalucia. When the Sun shines we'll be Cool in the Heat. Cheer's m Dear's
Myself and my partner used this tent for a recent week-long trip to Mull and Skye in Scotland, during which time we had to cope with 12 hours of torrential rain one night and a Met Office yellow alert of 55+mph winds another. The tent coped easily with both events. We went for a 3-man as a more spacious option for two people and this proved a wise choice with plenty of room inside for sleeping mattress and other bits and pieces. The blackout feature is a good option for light sleepers like myself who wake easily in brighter tents. The pop-up nature of the tent means that you're pitched and lighting your fire when others are still connecting their poles.
Criticisms? Not really any that I can think of although it's worth practicing the collapse method a few times as there is a knack to it. Highly recommended.
As a scout leader I have seen and used a lot of different tents over the years. This tent has a mixture of good and bad points. On the plus side it is quick and easy to erect, and unlike most popups it is equally quick to take down and put away. (Though as always it is best to practice in the garden before that big camping trip). The black out effect works very well and is as good as a traditional heavy canvas tent. You won't be woken up by the light even on a sunny morning in midsummer.
The main downside is that this tent is small, and the roof is very low. I think it is the smallest three man tent I have come across, and you get quite a claustrophobic coffin effect inside, especially if you use any sort of camp bed. The designers are assuming that you will sleep with your head at the opposite end to the door, as the only pockets are that end, and the light hanging loop is there, but the low roof is even lower at that end, and if you sleep that way round then it is harder to leave the tent without disturbing other occupants who might still be asleep.
Overall, I would recommend it, but for two people only, and I suggest you try before you buy in your local store. (I brought mine mail order during the covid-19 lockdown without the chance to see it).
Incredible how easy it is to put up and take down, the blackout is really effective, stays dry in the wet, nice features that are easy to use at the back and side where you can let light and air in in the day. The colour coded clips mean you can’t go wrong packing away, just start with the orange clip inside the tent and it all matches up from there.
Great buy.
This tent is amazing. The blackout feature works really well and makes for a good night’s sleep with kids who are unaware of when morning has arrived. Gives a cool shaded area to use during the day, particularly when air vents are open, even during a hot (UK) summer’s day.
It is so easy to erect, just a 4 clips to undo & it’s up in no time. With 2 persons on the job you can have it up and ready to go in under a minute! Packing the tent away is also easy although takes a little practice. Once confident it can be packed away in under 2 minutes. The 3 man version of the tent is very spacious, measuring just over 6 feet top to bottom and across so you can sleep as you fancy. Room for 3 persons but ideal for 2 plus kit as there’s no porch (but the XL version if you want a porch). All in all a great tent that I would definitely recommend... I’ve had loads of tents over the years & this is one of the best with great features. The black out is a game changer!
Super
I bought this in 2018 for use with the Scouts. Whilst Pop-Up tents are normally looked down upon in Scouting, this one intrigued all who saw it. It spent the first 6 months of it's life out every other weekend in the late Autumn, Winter and early Spring. It's never let a drop of rain in. It's also lovely and warm in the cold nights as well as cool in the Summer. Based on my year long review, we bought 11 more for the Scouts to use.
We get awesome customer service from all at Decathlon Gateshead and we are now buying their Air Beam tents for the Scouts too.
In short, my tent has been in the wilds of Northumberland for two winters and never faultered. A fantastic design and awesome service.
