TECHNICAL INFORMATIONS

Sole with grip

The grip of our soles is certified. To be awarded certification, the shoes must pass laboratory tests to assess the grip rate on different surfaces (Smooth, Rugged, Dry, Wet). To validate these tests, we assess the quality of our soles in the field, the mountains, by a panel of representative testers over 500 km

Waterproofing test

In a laboratory, the shoe is immersed in water to mid height on a mechanical arm that simulates a number of steps.
From this test we are able to establish how long and how many kilometres the shoe can withstand and remain dry.
- 2,000 flexes, around 30 minutes hiking
- 10,000 flexes, around 3 hours
- 30,000 flexes, around 8 hours
- 50,000 flexes, around 12 hours
We then validate in the field and rain that the shoe withstands this in use.

Making waterproofing last longer

To keep your feet dry, it is advisable to use a waterproof gaiter or mini-gaiter that will protect the shoe upper from water getting in, as well as pebbles, sand, etc.

. It is advisable to use a waterproof spray twice a year (search “waterproof spray” on the Decathlon website). This restores the original water-repellent properties and prevents staining.

Which size should you choose?

It is important to try several shoe sizes and styles to find the best one for you!
Feel free to choose one size above your usual size to prevent your toes from hitting the front of the shoe when going downhill, as long as the foot is secured to avoid rubbing.
Advice: keep your toenails short and, before any long descent, check that your lacing is tight enough to prevent your foot from sliding forwards inside the shoe.

Purchase advice / How to try on your footwear?

Certain Decathlons stores are fitted with a test trail.

1. Try both shoes on, standing up, wearing the socks you use for hiking.
2. Tie the laces making sure to evenly distribute the tightening.
3. Check two things:
- the heel does not get off the ground before the shoe when you walk uphill.
- your foot doesn’t slide and toes don’t touch the front when going downhill.
4. Try on several sizes and styles.

Wear them gradually so they conform to your feet.

Which Socks?

A waterproof shoe will be less breathable than a non-waterproof shoe. Our MH500, MH520 and MH900 socks in long or medium length (according to the height of the shoe) are therefore recommended to wick away moisture and avoid rubbing.

Make the most of your shoes: replace your inner soles!

The original inner sole in your shoes should suit the majority of feet. Changing the inner sole can provide:
1. Better support: some soles are pre-formed or reinforced to better support the foot arch.
2. More comfort: soles can also provide warmth and/or cushioning.
3. Increased durability: get back the support and comfort of your shoes by replacing the sole every season.

LABORATORY TESTS

Further laboratory tests are also conducted to validate the following: tearing of eyelets and straps, gluing, toxicology, UV resistance, abrasion of sole and upper components, accelerated ageing.

How to care for your shoes?

- Leave to dry outdoors.
- Remove dried mud with a fairly hard brush.
- Clean with a brush and a little warm water to remove stains
- Leave to dry
- Spray with a waterproof spray to restore the water-repellent properties of the upper.
