Impermeability of the garment
This garment was validated in a shower test using 60 L/sqm/hr of water for 2 hours. This test replicates the average conditions of a rain shower.
The fabric of this jacket is water-repellent, which means water runs off the surface without seeping in. As a result, the fabric does not soak up the water and remains lightweight and breathable. A fabric becomes water repellent by applying a treatment to its outer surface. We have also taped ALL of the seams.
How to maintain the waterproofing of your jacket over time
In order to maintain good waterproofing over time, the fabric's water repellent properties must be regularly reactivated. We recommend doing this every three washes or after a dozen uses in the rain. The waterproof property can be easily restored by heating the fabric: in a tumble dryer or with a hairdryer for a relatively short period. If you are washing it, it must be thoroughly rinsed.
Waterproof rating expressed in mm or Schmerber
We measure the resistance of a fabric to water pressure expressed in mm of water column (test based on Standard ISO 811). The higher the water pressure, the more waterproof the fabric. A fabric with a waterproof rating of 2000mm is therefore resistant to the pressure exerted by a 2000mm column of water.
Technical hood
The hood can be adjusted in height with a drawstring. It can be adjusted in depth thanks to a velcro strip at the back of the hood. The hood has a shape memory visor for a good protection of the face.
Component breathability
To find out whether a fabric is breathable, we test its total evaporative resistance (RET) based on the ISO 11092 standard. The lower the fabric's resistance, the more water vapour generated by physical activity can escape, and the higher the fabric's breathability.
- RET < 9 = extremely breathable fabric
9 < RET < 12 = very breathable fabric
12 < RET < 20 = breathable fabric
RET > 20 = little or no breathability
How to choose your waterproof jacket depending on your activity and your level of exercise?
During a sporting activity, you perspires to varying degrees, depending on the intensity or length of the effort. If the fabric's breathability is not suited to the type of activity/exercise, your perspiration will condense inside the jacket. You feel damp inside: this isn't rain getting through, but condensation from sweat. You therefore need to choose a rain jacket according to your type of physical activity. This jacket is designed for 2-hour hikes at no more than 5km/hr.
Technical linings
The double-lining of the jacket is composed of two materials: mesh in the back to enhance the breathability of the garment, and nylon at the hips to maximise the freedom of movement and to increase wear-resistance. For the hood, we used a brushed fabric, for a peach skin effect, with an exceptionally soft touch for extra comfort.
A comprehensive pocket system
The jacket has seven pockets in total! 2 pockets on the sides to keep your hands warm. 2 large, gusseted outer pockets with flap and press stud fastening. 1 outer chest pocket and 1 inside pocket, both closed with a zip to secure your belongings. 1 inside net pocket for your gloves, for example, to keep them warm against your body!
