We measure a fabric's resistance to water pressure, expressed in terms of the height of a water column in mm (based on the ISO 811 standard).
The higher the pressure, the more waterproof the fabric.
Components with a 2000 mm rating can withstand the pressure of a 2000 mm column of water (which is equivalent to a rain shower lasting 2 hours).
Waterproofing of the garment
This garment has been shower-tested in 60 litres/sqm/hour of water for 2 hours. This test reproduces the average conditions of a rain shower in the mountains.
To find out whether a fabric is breathable, we test its evaporative resistance or RET (based on the ISO 11092 standard).
The lower the resistance, the more water vapour generated by the body in physical activity can escape through the fabric. Hence, the more breathable it is.
RET < 9 = extremely breathable fabric
9 < RET < 12 = very breathable fabric
12 < RET < 20 = breathable fabric
RET > 20 = little or no breathability.
This cape has an RET = 12.
Water repellent property of the component
The water repellent property of a fabric is its ability to make water run off its surface without absorbing it.
In this way, the fabric does not soak up water and therefore remains lightweight, breathable and warm.
The water repellent property is obtained by applying a treatment to the outer surface of the fabric.
This treatment needs to be restored throughout the lifetime of the garment (every 3 washes).
All of Quechua's ponchos and capes have a water repellent treatment.
A score for comparing the products' environmental impact
The product's environmental footprint is calculated over its entire lifespan using various indicators. An overall score from A to E is given to help you easily identify the most eco-friendly products by comparing products of the same type (T-shirts, trousers, backpacks, etc.) with each other.
